What do you enjoy the most about being part of Residential Education?

I love the sense of community we have within the team. There are things about working in ResLife that only your fellows can understand, and because of that, you end up truly bonding with your teammates. We study, dine, and even chill together in our community, and we provide each other with an invaluable support system when it comes to balancing school, work, and life.

What I enjoy the most about being part of Residential Education is working with the Program Advisors for Community Experience team to create programs and then seeing our ideas come to life! Seeing residents enjoying themselves in our programs is always super rewarding.

The amazing people I work with! I greatly enjoy working with my fellow peers and building relationships with everyone. Community development is at the forefront of this department, and its nice seeing residents I mentor become more confident in themselves. I've also made a lot of close friends through this role, and I am very grateful for ResLife for bringing us together!

How has being a student
staff member benefited you?

Being in ResLife has helped me develop my leadership and interpersonal skills. It gave me the confidence to approach and resolve difficult situations and to be adaptable to ever-changing situations. Having worked in the Live-In side (Resident Advisors) and Engagement side (Program Advisors), I have found that no matter what role I am in, I am surrounded by a supportive student staff, and I am challenged professionally so that I continue to grow as a leader and an individual.

Becoming a Program Advisor for Residential Experiences was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Having a position in ResLife has helped me meet new people and gain a network of personal connections, both with my residents and with many staff members. It felt like joining a big family, where I had a sense of unity with my peers, and I always felt very comfortable with the environment around me. I hope to be a continuing member of this big family, as I will be encouraged to learn continuously, broadening my horizons and challenging myself to do things outside of my comfort zone.

Be genuine in your applications. Residential Education is not a job to be taken lightly, and many people underestimate exactly how much time you need to commit not only to the work, but also the unwinding process at the end of each day. Yes, the position is very rewarding and very beneficial regardless of your experience, but one must come in with a sense of directionality, duty, and drive in order to succeed and excel.
